Member of Parliament Sun Xueling of Punggol West posted on Facebook addressing a pressing concern of residents on Monday (Oct 17). Many reported seeing a man wielding a sword out in public, causing some to reach out to public authorities with their concern.
“I received several notifications from concerned residents about a video circulating of a person apparently carrying a sword and lashing out passers by at Sumang Lane,” she wrote in her post.
She then confirmed that it was just a film shoot and “not a real incident”.
Concerned residents, however, expressed their dissatisfaction over the lack of an advisory to the public. Many took to the post to express their fright as well as to call for such activities to be broadcasted to residents so as not to cause any unnecessary panic or alarm.
“Could the real SPF (have) reacted if there happened to pass by? The coordination seemed poor, that’s all.” wrote one Singaporean.
Another brought her concern for youngsters to the table, writing,
“Dear Ms Sun Xueling, I would like to express my dissatisfaction regarding this filming of “samurai slashing” as it is inappropriate to be filmed at a residential area especially when there are many families with small children and teenagers.
Such behaviours or actions should not be openly exposed to our children. I hope there are measures taken as to not allow such ‘inappropriate’ scenes to be filed here in our neighbourhood.”
