Singapore — A youth’s online criticism of Singaporean girls as “ungroomed” compared with Americans sparks backlash, with netizens saying he should first take a look at himself.
A TikTok user by the name of David Rosal posted a clip of himself saying: “Basically, right, I feel like American girls, they know how to groom themselves better and make themselves look more presentable. It doesn’t matter what race it is, like white, black, Hispanic, Asian…dude, they know how to… it’s not even makeup… they can take care of themselves better.”
He carries on, “I swear you, Singaporean girls, y’all just be wearing the same s**t, y’all just be f**king, I don’t know, not be taking care of yourselves, and y’all look like f**king *ss.”
“Y’all look like y’all just died and came back from the dead. Like come on, man, you gotta step your game up for real.”
Towards the end of the video he comments that he would probably get cancelled for what he just posted, “but whatever.”
Predictably, his TikTok criticism sparks numerous comments from netizens slamming him for what he says.
In a separate video, he appears unapologetic and even invites others to respond by using the platform’s duet function that would place their TikTok video side by side with the video to which they are reacting.
On Tuesday (Dec 21), TikTok user @awkazm did just that and earned praise from netizens for panning the self-appointed critic’s own sense of style in an earlier video showing an outfit Rosal had worn then:
“You look like a soy sauce bottle with no taste,” the TikToker said of Rosal’s black-on-black attire.
The video continues with @awkazm saying, “Black on black? More like bland on bland.”
He then hints that contrary to Rosal’s presumed assumption, Singaporean girls do not want him.
The reaction video has received more than 26,500 likes to date, with many praising @awkazm’s wit.
“Singaporean guys standing up for Singaporean girls!” a netizen crowed. That comment received more than 5,000 likes.
This style spat has spilt over to other social media platforms, including Twitter and Instagram, with users saying Rosal is “the most hated dude in Singapore right now”.

Before deleting his TikTok and Instagram accounts on Dec 21, Rosal uploaded an apology video, saying he shouldn’t have made sweeping statements and generalisations on the female population in Singapore.
Rosal says he was not thinking when he made such statements, adding he would “take full accountability for (his) actions,” according to a Mothership report. /TISG
