SINGAPORE: A Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight bound for Hong Kong turned back to Changi Airport on Sunday (14 July) due to a technical problem.

The incident occurred shortly after takeoff, prompting the return of flight SQ892 to ensure the safety of all on board.

According to flight tracking platform FlightRadar24 data, the Airbus A380 aircraft, carrying 311 passengers and 27 crew members, was scheduled to depart from Singapore at 9:40 am on 14 July, with an expected arrival in Hong Kong at 1:55 pm.

However, the technical issue forced the plane to return to Changi Airport, where it landed safely at 10:56 am.

An SIA spokesperson confirmed the incident yesterday, stating that the flight had to return due to technical problems.

“All passengers and crew on board disembarked safely,” the spokesperson said. “We deeply regret the inconvenience this has caused and the safety of our passengers and crew is always our top priority.”

Upon landing, passengers were provided with refreshments and necessary assistance as they awaited further instructions. SIA ensured that all affected passengers were taken care of during the delay.

At 2:52 pm, the same Airbus A380, having undergone necessary checks and clearance, resumed its journey to Hong Kong. Passengers reboarded the aircraft, and the flight proceeded without further incident. /TISG
