Singapore — An iguana was spotted facing off with vehicles along Lentor Avenue near Yishun Stadium, with motorists stopping to try to lead it to safety.

“Why did the iguana cross the road?” quipped Facebook user Ivan Goh on SG PCN Cyclist’s page. This iguana definitely didn’t chicken out.

He attached a video of the herbivorous lizard positioned in the middle of the road, facing oncoming vehicles.

“Nice to see some cyclists, passers-by, bus driver, and even a driver lending his umbrella to assist in guiding the iguana out of the road,” said Mr Goh.

The iguana swept its tail about defensively while they were trying to lead it to safety.

At one point, it zipped under a bus and a car before heading over to the road divider.

It inspected a couple of trees before settling on one to climb.

Mr Goh said their attempt to lead the iguana away from the road was unsuccessful as it was still on a tree when they left. “Hope it will finally cross over safely to the other side,” he said.

The online community commended the motorists who stopped to help the iguana to safety. When some asked if they managed to get it to a safer spot, Mr Goh said they did try, but it was difficult to lure it away or catch it.
