SINGAPORE — As a gift to Anchorvale’s low-income students, Workers’ Party MP Jamus Lim, along with members of his team, gave out school necessities for the upcoming school year, which begins on Jan 3, 2023.

The Sengkang GRC Member of Parliament posted photos of the back-to-school event, which is held yearly, on his Facebook and Instagram accounts, thanking the donors who gave toward the event.

“The gifts are for low-income students at the primary and secondary school age, who are residents of #Anchorvale,” wrote Assoc Prof Lim.

“We try to vary the items we give out each year, so this round, we delivered backpacks (in several colors), in addition to our usual book vouchers. It was fun to see the kids exercise expressive choice, and pick out their preferred colors.”

He added that the Sengkang GRC team always looks to expand its network of partners, and anyone who would like to extend a helping hand to children of welfare families is welcome to reach out to the team.

Netizens commenting on the MP’s post expressed appreciation for the team’s endeavours.

It is the second year in a row that Assoc Prof Lim has posted photos of the event.

Last year, he even donned a Santa Claus hat and beard for gift-giving to the children.

“This weekend, our trusty #TeamSengkang volunteers organized our annual Christmas and back-to-school event, where we gave out book vouchers, cookies, child-sized masks, and other small gifts to school-aged children at our rental block in #Anchorvale.

In the spirit of the occasion, I put on a hat and bearded mask to play the role of ‘Sengkang Claus’ (hohoho), and helped give out presents to the kids. Heartfelt thanks to our hardworking volunteers and all generous donors, including Xenium, as well as others that have chosen to remain anonymous. #SengkangGRC,” he wrote.
