SINGAPORE: After an online page shared a 1967 photo of Orchard Road, a handful of Singaporeans were left feeling nostalgic, many sharing their fondest memories of the old Singapore.
Community Facebook page The Long and Winding Road shared an old photo on Sunday (Aug 13), which elicited a nostalgic response from a handful of Singaporeans.
The black and white photo featured a 1967 photo of Orchard Road with National Day decorations. “The famous car park by day, supper spot by night is on the left of the pic and the Magnolia Snack / Milk Bar is on the right,” the post read. “Further down, we can also see the meeting of Emerald Hill Road and Orchard Road.”
The shot brought back simple yet profound memories for many. From getting ice cream milkshakes as children to NDP daytime parade flashbacks, a handful of netizens shared their recollections of the “old Singapore.”
“You can see many Morris Oxfords and 1100,” said one. “VW bus has a funny paint job. Good old days.”
“I remember having ice cream milk shake at Mongolia milk bar as a child,” shared another.
A third pointed out, “Two-way traffic on Orchard Road!”
One even remembered a time when the NDP was held in the morning. “I remembered having the NDP in the morning instead of the evening like nowadays,” the online user wrote. “There was at one point of time the NDP was held at night in 1994.”
“Nickerboker skyscraper!” shared another. “My favourite ice cream sundae at magnolia snack bar.”
