It’s been on the grapevine for a few months now but it is finally confirmed: Ewan McGregor who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequels is set to reprise his role as the legendary Jedi Knight.

However it’s not for the big screen as fans would hope for but Lucasfilm is working on another Disney+ streaming series, this time centred around Darth Vader’s former master.

Cinelinx was the first to break the news which reported that McGregor had signed on the dotted lines to once again don his Jedi robes and play Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Later, Deadline reported that McGregor’s Obi-Wan will be front and centre of a new Star Wars series on Disney+.

Star Wars fans have been clamouring for more live-action Obi-Wan for years now.

In fact, it still remains a mystery to us why Disney and Lucasfilm decided to make a Han Solo spinoff instead of Obi-Wan, especially since nobody asked for the former and the latter had/has all the fanfare.

Fans who only follow the Star Wars franchise on the big screen may be wondering what else is there to tell about Obi-Wan?

Didn’t he just run away and live in a cave until the events of A New Hope?

Interestingly enough, he didn’t.

The Star Wars TV Series, novels and comics have explored some of Obi-Wan’s adventures post-Revenge of the Sith, pre-A New Hope.

In Star Wars: Rebels, we even see a quick but awesome lightsaber battle between Obi-Wan and Darth Maul, which ends with Master Kenobi slicing through the villain’s chest and killing him.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor is the third Star Wars series making its way to Disney+.

The first two being Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian set to debut at the launch of the streaming platform this fall and also a series centred around Cassion Andor and K2SO.
