Singaporean actress Eelyn Kok, known for her versatility on screen, recently shared her personal experience of being a strict mother to her 9-year-old son, Zane. At 44 years old,  Eelyn Kok emphasized the importance of teaching her son proper manners and respect while growing up.

In an interview with a Singaporean Chinese-language newspaper, Lianhe Zaobao, the actress mentioned that throughout her acting career, she had already experienced many roles. However, being the ‘bad cop’ at home is the most challenging one.

Due to this, Eelyn Kok had to deal with the feeling that her son is becoming distant from her. Nonetheless, she believes that this decision is appropriate.

“I know it was right for me to set the rules. My son knows that I am his mother but he also regards me as a friend, all while knowing what lines cannot be crossed,” she exclaimed. Such rules include being polite and respectful to those who are older.

“Politeness is very important,” the 44-year-old added, and she believes that it must be taught at an early age.

Aside from manners, Eelyn Kok makes sure that her son has good habits as he lives his daily life – Zane must inform his mother of his arrival at home and go to their room, and acknowledge his parents even though he is in the middle of playing computer games.

Moreover, Eelyn Kok admitted that her son is good at debating her sentiments.

“He’s really good at refuting what I say, just like my husband,” she added. There are really moments when Zane would ask questions that will leave her stunned. He would also constantly rebut what she says.

“It makes me think to myself, ‘When I was in primary school, did I have such a sharp tongue?’” she stated.

In unrelated news, Eelyn Kok is back in school. She is currently taking a course on business analytics at Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

She expressed that after years of acting, roles have been easy for her to learn, unlike when she was still a rookie in her field.

“Maybe that’s why I’ve enrolled in this course – as a means of looking for a new challenge,” the actress stated.
