An online user has called on the public to be extra cautious with thieves after a friend’s bag was cut open. The woman allegedly lost her permit, S$700 and an ATM card.

On Monday (Nov 14) the online user shared an alarming video on the Facebook group, Singapore Incidents. “Be careful at City Plaza area,” the post read. “She (was) queu(ing) to buy food but someone cut the bag.”

The short video clip showed a bright yellow back that had a cut at the bottom. Embedded onto the video was more text saying “Be careful when you take (an) off day, guys…someone cut her bag. She (lost) her permit, $700, and ATM have three cards.”

In response to this, while a handful of online users expressed their shock over the incident allegedly having taken place in Singapore, others urged Singaporeans to practice vigilance, especially with the festivities of the holiday season coming up.

“In Singapore???” asked one in disbelief. “First time I’ve seen this kind of theft in Singapore,” said another.

“When in crowded places, cross sling your bag to the front, hp in your front pocket,” wrote another online user. “This experience has taught you a good lesson, learn from it. Festive seasons are near, pickpockets are everywhere. So be aware of your surroundings and stay alert.”

Another wrote, “How sad.”
