K-pop superstars BTS stole the show at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards (BBMA), winning the coveted Top Duo/Group award and snagging the Top Social Artist award for the third year in a row, thanks to their enormous and devoted ARMY fan base.
On Wednesday, May 1, super band and K-pop sensation BTS arrived at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for the 2019 Billboard Music Awards. Looking fly in Alexander McQueen suits and crisp white shirts, the boys caused quite a stir with their impressive double win.
The boys beat out sick groups Maroon 5, Panic! At The Disco, Imagine Dragons, and Dan + Shay to win the Top Duo/Group award of the year.
The K-pop powerhouse, always in sync with their smooth moves and melodic tones, were ecstatic and even jumped for joy when they won yet another award. Indeed, BTS bagging the Top Social Artist award for the third year in a row is testament to the strength and persistence of their massive fan base, whom they call their ARMY.
Hundreds of millions of fans battled it out online, but ARMY came out on top, leading BTS to its third straight year as the Top Social Artist. This year, BTS surpassed the likes of Ariana Grande and EXO to get the top spot again.
V, Jungkook, Jimin, Suga, Jin, RM, and J-Hope accepted the honour together, and RM spoke for the group, thanking their fans for their unbelievable support, and love.
“Thank you, ARMY. Still can’t believe we’re here on this stage with so many great artists, oh my god,” RM said. “ARMY, this is only possible because of the little things we shared together. The BTS and ARMY power, right? And we’re still the same boys from six years ago. We still have the same dreams. We still have the same feelings; we still have the same thoughts. So let’s keep dreaming the best dreams together. Thank you. I love you all.”
At the 2019 BBMAs, BTS shared the stage with US artist Halsey, performing their collaboration “Boys with Luv” in an amazing performance that showed off the group’s serious moves, impressive in their synchronisation and flow.
Halsey, 24, and BTS became friends after meeting at the BBMAs a few years ago and realising they were fans of each other’s work. Eventually, a collaboration was born. The crowd at the BBMAs loved the energy and the evident joy in their performance.
When asked what to expect from BTS’ upcoming world tour, member J-Hope put it this way: “Fashion, our energy and visual.”/TISG
