BlueSG driver stops on expressway, car behind stops in time, but gets rear-ended by cab

Singapore –  It began when a BlueSG car stopped for no apparent reason on an expressway in Singapore.

The driver of the car behind it hit the brakes and avoided bumping into the BlueSG car.  But that didn’t prevent the second car being hit by a ComfortDelGro cab coming from behind.

Wrong place. Wrong time. And it could have been much worse. Facebook page ROADS.sg uploaded a video on Friday (Feb 11) of the accident on an expressway that isn’t identified.

A BlueSG car, part of Singapore’s first electric car-sharing fleet, was caught on camera stopped by the chevron markings on the road, prompting the driver behind to stop as well

Then came the Comfort blue taxi which  slams into the second car, as recorded by  the rear-view camera of that car.

Several netizens speculated that the driver of the BlueSG car might have forgotten to insert a cash card into the in-vehicle unit (IU) and got “shocked” when it stopped.

“Many of these BSG drivers rarely drive, so they don’t have the habit of automatically putting cashcard in the IU unit before driving. But then again, the taxi is at fault for not paying attention,” said a Facebook user.

But others noted that BlueSG users don’t need to use cash cards. On the BlueSG website, it states that ERP charges payable will be charged automatically to the member’s account. “There is no need to insert the cash card into the Bluecar IU, although you may choose to do so,” said BlueSG.

Netizens decided the cab driver was at fault for not being alert and not driving defensively. “Why is everyone blaming BlueSG. It’s taxi’s fault for not keeping distance,” said a Facebook user. Every motorist has to be on the alert every time, said another netizen. /TISG
