African grey parrot in Toa Payoh missing since Oct 29, his human family offering the public S$2,000 reward to help in his safe return

The human family of an African grey parrot who flew away from home on Oct 29 is now offering a reward for his safe return. Irene Tan’s pet parrot, Max, got spooked and flew away from Blk 110 Toa Payoh Lorong 1 on Oct 29 at around 7 pm.

Ms Tan noted that Max has a leg ring with a chain attached to it. “We are worried sick as he might get himself tangled or injure himself,” she said in a poster with the lost pet information.

A mother in Singapore became the target of criticism after posting a TikTok video explaining why she doesn’t let her child eat birthday cakes in school during celebrations.

“Do you let your child eat birthday cakes in school?” she asked in the video before revealing that she doesn’t let her son eat such desserts, “although he’s more than welcome to sing and celebrate the happy occasion with his friends.”

A woman having problems with her bully of a father took to social media to ask others for advice on what she should do.

“I have always been the shy, quiet person[n] who obviously lacks communication skills and sometimes rather just exit silently”, she wrote. She added that she grew up in a traditional family where the males took the lead and the women took “the back row”. Even when she witnessed her father stealing, cutting queues or being unreasonable, she would keep quiet.

I read with interest the Opinion piece, “GE15: The homecoming of Anwar Ibrahim” (The Independent Singapore, Nov 27). It’s inspiring news to learn that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s appointment as the 10th prime minister of Malaysia, after his 25 years long winding struggle in politics.

Anwar’s staunch courage, determination and fortitude shape him to stand tall today. Now, it will be the conspicuous focus for his political opponents and the world to observe how Anwar carries out his promises during the GE15 election campaign.
