Singapore Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen recently shared a throwback photo featuring him and his schoolmates on social media. Together with the post was a little guessing game where he asked Singaporeans to guess which other government leader is seen in the old photo.
Mr Ng on Monday (Sept 26) took to Facebook to share a class photo taken sometime in the 70s. The faded picture featured 35 young pupils outside a building called Lee Kong Chian Building. “An old schoolmate sent this to me,” Mr Ng’s caption read, “First time seeing this pic.”

An online user on Monday (Sept 26) shared an eye-catching missing animal poster to an online Facebook group, Singapore Incidents.
“Lost!” the poster read, featuring a photo of a chicken named Demuk. The description of the poster read, “Last seen in Blk 733. Please help me find my tiny chicken. You will be rewarded in cash if found.”

Footage of the late chef Anthony Bourdain calling out Singaporeans has resurfaced online. In the clip, he is seen to be calling out Singaporean society for creating a system that represses lower-class workers.
“What are maids?” the video catches Mr Bourdain asking a few Singaporeans in a travel and food show called Parts Unknown. “Maids, as in helpers,” a woman explains. “Actually, if you look at Singapore, a lot of women are in the workforce. And the reason why that is so is because everyone’s got a maid looking after their child at home. So, maids are kind of like the opiate of the masses.”

Ex-GIC chief economist calls for ‘stronger policy action’ that would ‘make huge difference to the working poor, elderly & unemployed by raising incomes towards decent living wage’
A former chief economist for sovereign wealth fund GIC, Mr Lam Keong Yeoh, called for “stronger and bolder policy action” to help the poor, elderly, and unemployed in a much-shared Facebook post on Sunday (Sept 25).
He wrote that he believes that Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong “is sincere in intentions to help the poor” but found Mr Wong’s recent remarks about the “unintended consequences” of solutions proposed in advancing the wellbeing of lower wage workers, such as setting a minimum wage, to be “disingenuous.”
