Actress Felicia Chin no doubt surprised many when she announced on Thursday (June 23) that she would be leaving Mediacorp after nearly two decades in show business.

“Hello! This might take you by surprise but I want you to personally share with you that I am going to leave Mediacorp this coming July and move on to a faith-based ministry, [还好吗] @hhm.sg,” Chin wrote on her Facebook and Instagram accounts.

The actress added that she has been deliberating her career shift  for some time now, and her “new beginning” at @hhm.sg is “one that speaks to me right now.”

She thanked Mediacorp “for the company’s support and for all the love that I’ve been surrounded with,” writing in her post that she is “filled with gratitude and thankfulness to be able to hone my skills as an artiste and actor,” adding that she hopes to continue to work on media projects.

“Thank you everyone, plucked up a lot of courage to step out in faith, change is sometimes terrifying but necessary. I hope to continue to learn and grow as a person and artiste and spread a message of hope to people around me. Thank you for personally journeying with me and will def be happy to receive your blessings too!”

Commenters on her post appeared to be only too happy to oblige Chin’s request, showering the actress with blessings.

Chin has been open about her Christian faith, writing in a 2020 piece on saltandlight.sg that the first time she got down on her knees to pray to God was in a toilet cubicle in 2015.

She wrote in the piece that fellow actor Rayson Tan had invited her to go to church with him, where she gave her “life to Jesus.”

Later, one of the pastors of that church told Chin that God said to her, “Tell Felicia that I am her Father.”

Chin saw this as an answer to prayer, having lost her father to cancer when she was only 17.

Fellow artistes also expressed support for Chin.
