Singapore — A driver cruising along the Bukit Timah Expressway was startled to see a wild boar dashing out across the road. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough time to avoid the collision, resulting in a case of roadkill.

On Saturday (Dec 11), Facebook page ROADS.sg uploaded a video with the caption, “A wild boar dashing across expressway and being hit by car. This is an unfortunate roadkill that cannot be avoided. RIP – Running Into Pig.”

The incident is said to have happened on Dec 7 at around 12:23 am, where the driver was travelling along BKE heading towards Woodlands.

Out of nowhere, the wild board dashed across the expressway from the left side.

A loud thud was heard as the animal crashed into the vehicle, causing the driver to shout in surprise.

A voice in the vehicle asked what happened as the collision happened so quickly. Another person responded that it was a wild boar that cut their path.

Chinese newspaper Shin Min Daily News reported that the police were alerted to the scene.

An Expressway Monitoring and Advisory System (EMAS) vehicle also arrived at the accident site.

Although a few members from the online community said that defensive driving was needed to avoid such instances, many highlighted that this was highly unlikely, even dangerous.

“Most people that want to avoid the wild boar would do defensive driving, but if you are not skilled enough or the car is not able to respond to your action, you may end up skiing or rolling over…end up killing yourself (as a) worst-case scenario to save the wild boar,” noted Facebook user Chris Walker.

A netizen said that the road was empty, and the driver could have swerved to one side, adding there was no need to drive so fast to the extent of being unable to avoid the accident.

However, Facebook user Ken Choo pointed out that the driver had nowhere to swerve to. “Swerve where? The boar was going left to right. How far do you need to swerve to avoid it totally? By the time you see the boar, even if you do a 90-degree drift, you cannot avoid it.” /TISG
