Act of kindness goes viral: Boy with autism loves trucks, so transport worker promises him a ride

Singapore — A post from a man who took the time out to talk to a boy with autism who happens to love trucks has gone viral, with many online commenters thanking him for his kindness.

Mr Raymond Lee took to Facebook on Sept 22 posting a photo of a very large truck and a young boy with his father standing in front of it.

He wrote that he saw the pair standing by one of their company’s trucks that evening just as he was about to return home.

As his car was parked outside, he chanced upon the father and son.

Although it wasn’t the first time he had seen them, he had never spoken to them before. Mr Lee, whose Facebook page says he works at Golden View Transport, had actually seen them one early morning a few weeks ago.

At that time he was running late for work and was waiting for his waiting for my Scania S500 Highline to warm up before rushing off.

But on Tuesday, he took the time to talk to the boy’s father, learning that his son has autism.

However, the young boy “is a great fan for trucks and tractors and that’s the reason why they are always hanging around our company trucks.”

Mr Lee also learned that the boy enjoys being around trucks so much that his father has to “patiently persuade him” to head for school in the morning or go home at night.

“Sometimes may even took him half hour to an hour on this process daily which sometimes even gotta himself late for work,” Mr Lee added.

He then kindly went out of his way to promise the boy a special treat.

“Just now, I had tried to help convince and persuade him by purposely going to my car and get the spare key and let him sit inside it and even make promise to him that will find a chance to bring him for a ride on the new Scania S500 Highline since he like it a lot and his dad even told me that they even took some photos with him at the truck.”

Mr Lee, who is also a father of five children, also expressed his admiration for the boy’s father, whose “patience towards his son really earn my fullest respect towards him.”

Many commenters thanked him for his kindness. /TISG
