Tan Cheng Bock and fellow PSP members visit Facebook to discuss their social media plan with political specialists

Members of the Progress Singapore Party (PSP) paid a visit to the Facebook offices in Singapore yesterday (3 Sept), to meet the tech giant’s political specialists and discuss what the best social media practices were that they can use as part of their media plan for their activities.

Dr Tan Cheng Bock, the party’s secretary-general, was among those who visited Facebook. Sharing photos from its visit to Facebook, PSP revealed on social media: “It was an exciting trip to Facebook. Both our CEC as well as our members got to learn about best practises with the social media decacorn.”

PSP member Khush Chopra added on his own social media page that PSP met with “Facebook’s political specialists to deepen our understanding of the nuances and best practices we should be aware of in engaging the communities that we serve.”

Another PSP member, Brad Bowyer, said on his personal Facebook page that the visit helped the party learn “how we can best embrace the future to speak to you all… And hopefully building a meaningful 2 way dialogue as we work For Country, For Singapore.”

PSP is not the only opposition party that has visited the offices of a tech conglomerate to discuss their media plans.

In June, members of the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) paid a visit to the Google offices in Singapore to discuss how the organisation can support the party’s online communication needs, as the opposition party prepares for the next General Election.

SDP secretary-general Dr Chee Soon Juan called the discussion with Google staff “fruitful,” and shared that his party held similar talks with Facebook last November. He added that the SDP was the first local political party that was invited to the Google Singapore offices.
