Seoul, Korea – On July 17 (Wednesday), former CEO and chief producer of YG Entertainment, Yang Hyun-suk was booked on allegations that he arranged prostitution services for his foreign investors.
South Korea’s K-pop entertainment industry has been recently hit with numerous sex and drug scandals involving famous artists such as Seungri from Big Bang and singer-songwriter Jung Joon-young back in April of this year.
A couple of women have also obtained enough confidence to reveal how they were sexually assaulted on separate occasions by a member of those affiliated in the scandal.
The police have been cracking down hard on those in the entertainment industry who have allegedly exploited women for business purposes.
Yang has been accused of having treated potential foreign investors such as controversial Malaysian businessman Low Taek Jho, popularly known as Jho Low, at a high-end restaurant in Seoul on July 2014.
After the dinner, the foreign investors would allegedly head on over to one of Yang’s clubs and were offered sexual services.
Yang has denied the allegations.
The police revealed on July 18 via a statement to 8 News that it will be difficult to commence investigations due to a lack of proof.
“Yang Hyun Suk’s suspicions are similar to Seungri’s prostitution suspicions in Palawan,” said the police. “In addition to securing key statements, it’s necessary to secure proof of prostitution. But it’s unlikely that there will be any significant evidence even if a forced search is conducted,” the authorities added.
A South Korean court refused to issue a warrant of arrest for Seungri in May 2019 stating that there was “room for dispute” regarding his case.
Meanwhile, Gangnam Style creator and former YG Entertainment member, Psy, has offered to refund tickets for his upcoming concert “Psy’s Water Show,” according to allkpop.
Interpark, the company in charge of ticket sales, announced on July 18 that the show had been cancelled “due to the artist’s personal request” and refunds will be given.
The popular summer concert was sold out before any news regarding Psy’s connection to Yang Hyun Suk’s prostitution scandal was released.
