Celebrity couple Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik’s romance is over,  after six years of on-off dating and a daughter, say media reports including People.

Tabloid journalism site TMZ reported that according to sources, Gigi’s mother Yolanda claimed that Zayn “struck” her.
But in a statement to TMZ on Thursday, Zayn “adamantly” denied the allegation.

This looks like the end of the line for the tailored-for-tabloids celebrity tale of supermodel Gigi, 26,  and singer Zayn, 28, who last rekindled their romance in late 2019 and welcomed a daughter, Khai, in September 2020.

A friend of the Hadid family told People that Gigi and Zayn “are not together right now. They are both good parents though. They co-parent. Yolanda is of course very protective of Gigi. She wants the best for her daughter and grandchild”.

A source told Entertainment Tonight that their breakup actually pre-dated the breaking news of Yolanda and Zayn’s alleged dispute.

“Gigi and Zayn broke up before the incident with Yolanda,” the source said. “The two have been co-parenting but they are not together. They tried to make things work for their daughter, but it wasn’t working out.”

Following Zayn’s statement on the incident with his child’s grandmother,  a rep for Gigi said on behalf of the model. The rep said, “Gigi is solely focused on the best for Khai. She asks for privacy during this time.”  Neither Zayn nor Gigi have directly commented on the breakup on social media, as reported by Elle.

Zayn made two comments on the allegations. He told TMZ after the story emerged: “I adamantly deny striking Yolanda Hadid and for the sake of my daughter I decline to give any further details and I hope that Yolanda will reconsider her false allegations and move towards healing these family issues in private.”

Via Twitter, he had initially posted a message asking for privacy for the sake of his daughter:

“As you all know I am a private person and I very much want to create a safe and private space for my daughter [Khai] to grow up in. A place where private family matters aren’t thrown on the world stage for all to poke and pick apart. In an effort to protect that space for her, I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner’s who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago. This was and still should be a private matter but it seems for now there is divisiveness and despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow for me to co-parent my daughter in a manner in which she deserves, this has been “leaked” to the press. I am hopeful though for healing for all involved with the harsh words shared and more importantly I remain vigilant to protect Khai and give her the privacy she deserves.”

The pair started dating in fall  2015, abd after nearly two and a half years, had a breakup in March 2018. At the time, both had taken to Twitter to announce the split.

They reconciled in April 2018 but  kept their relationship under wraps and generally off social media. It was reported that Zayn and Gigi  broke up again in January 2019, although outlets such as E! reported that they had taken a “break” two months early in November 2018.

They then rekindled their romance around the holidays in 2019, more…and only to end it again nearly two years later./TISG
