A video of a safety officer shouting at the top of his lungs at construction workers is circulating online, sparking a debate about whether this was professional behaviour or verbal abuse.

The video, uploaded on TikTok with over 980,000 views, shows a man wearing a blue helmet and shouting at the group of migrant workers standing in a line in front of him.

The man repeatedly points at the workers aggressively while yelling. The workers do not respond and receive the scolding quietly.

The officer begins to walk away only to come back and shouts “F***” at the workers.

“Seriously? This is how we treat people? I don’t understand the words, but still,” the original poster wrote.

Netizens pointed out that the safety officer was “stressed” and could only show such expressions “like talking to school children.”

“Rather than shout, I would simply give them demerit points. And once it hit the high end, penalise them from coming to work for a few days or week,” suggested a netizen.

Meanwhile, many sided with the safety officer, noting he was responsible for maintaining everyone’s safety. “Blue helmet is safety officers. If they do not comply, they can jail and fine,” commented a TikTok user.

“Safety officers must be firm and do whatever it takes. It may not look good, but literal lives are in his hands,” noted netizen @wesleythomas797.

Another TikTok user deciphered the words “who don’t want, who die!!!!” from the safety officer. “I rather he shouts at them now for their safety than later something happens,” noted the netizen.

“My husband is a safety officer himself and every day he told me the stories of how frustrated he was with the workers cause sometimes they simply won’t listen,” added TikTok user @mswnny./TISG
