VIDEO: Motorcyclist speeding & splitting lane through junction flips over after sudden braking

“OMG, what was the rider thinking?” asked a netizen on a video of a motorcyclist splitting lane and flipping over at a junction after activating the brakes to avoid an accident.

The video, taken by a nearby dashboard camera, was posted on Facebook page Singapore Road Accident and shared on ROADS.sg on Saturday (May 14), highlighting the importance of following road rules and practising defensive driving to avoid accidents.

As the traffic lights turned green and vehicles began moving forward, a motorcyclist appeared from the left and failed to slow down while he crossed the junction.

Soon after, the rider realised that the vehicles were turning and activated the brakes. “Brake too hard. Bike did not slow down, flipped when breaking,” the post caption noted.

Netizens criticised the rider, noting such behaviour was dangerous.

“What was the rider thinking? Going straight? That lane has straight, left or right turn where the brown car was turning right,” noted Facebook user Noorlina Senin.

“Bike wants to go straight when it is a turning lane…not because he speeds. He braked hard to avoid turning the car,” wrote Facebook user Colin Foo in a comment.

Meanwhile, some netizens wondered why the camcar and the vehicle in front of it drove off following the incident instead of assisting the rider.

However, Facebook user Tomoyuki Chantarasopawong explained that they did the right thing by driving away as they weren’t involved in the accident.

“There was a similar experience where the cam car stopped to help but ended up in a legal insurance tussle, accused by the biker for hitting from behind when there was no single sign of scratch nor dent of the car, it was a similar scenario to this that the bike flipped when doing a hard-braking on PIE near Stevens Exit,” he explained.

Another netizen reminded other riders that jamming the front brake is always dangerous. “Jam rear brake and a bit of front should be sufficient to stop,” he added.

There have been multiple incidents caught on camera of motorcyclists’ lane splitting and resulting in road accidents. Hopefully, riders are reminded of the safety risks accompanying this practice. /TISG
