AWARE on Raeesah Khan’s account of alleged mishandled rape case: Not ethical for her to share further details

Singapore — Workers’ Party MP Raeesah Khan (Sengkang GRC) was questioned by Law Minister K Shanmugam in Parliament on Monday (Oct 4) regarding the details of a rape case that was allegedly mishandled by the police. 

Ms Khan held her ground on maintaining the victim’s confidentiality. She previously said that she had lost contact with the victim and could not ask permission to disclose information.

Singapore to buy anti-COVID drug Molnupiravir, said to be effective against all variants

Singapore — An agreement for Singapore to buy a supply of Molnupiravir, an oral Covid-19 antiviral drug from pharmaceutical company Merck, was announced on Wednesday (Oct 6).

The announcement from Merck, known as MSD (Merck Sharp & Dohme) in other countries, comes one day after Singapore saw a record-high number of new Covid infections of 3,490.

Merck said Molnupiravir will be made available after authorisation and approval for its use have been given.

Lim Tean calls record high COVID cases “Shameful Milestone”, but Alex Cook says it’s possible high numbers are the result of too much testing

Singapore — According to lawyer and opposition leader Lim Tean, the record-high number of new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (Oct 5) of 3,480 is a “shameful milestone” for Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong as well as Lawrence Wong, Ong Ye Kung, and Gan Kim Yong, the ministers heading the Multi-ministry Task Force dealing with the pandemic.

However, it bears pointing out that the vast majority of the new infections are mild or even asymptomatic, and most of the new cases have qualified for the Home Recovery Programme, and do not need to be admitted to hospitals.

Workers allegedly made to wait under the sun at Sembawang testing facility; concerns raised online

Singapore ― A photo of migrant workers allegedly waiting under the sun to get tested for Covid-19 is circulating online, sparking concerns among netizens regarding their welfare.

One Zakir Kasih Rahayu took to Facebook page Complaint Singapore on Wednesday (Oct 6) to share a scene encountered at a Sembawang testing facility that morning.

“More than 40 minutes waiting under the sun near the road,” the netizen highlighted, referring to the workers standing outside.

After COVID-19 infection, patients developing diabetes; experts unsure why

Although data showed that Covid-19 infection is dangerous for diabetics, new findings show that the virus can also trigger the disease in those who previously didn’t have it.

Several Covid-19 survivors have developed type 1 and type 2 diabetes, according to research published by Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism in November 2020.
