The GST tax hike from 7 to 9 per cent is set to be raised one percentage point each time on Jan 1, 2023, and Jan 1, 2024.

Resharing a 2012 article in the Straits Times by Tommy Koh, netizens point out that if one wants to talk about the tax rates, they should also look at salaries as well.

Maids ask that on their off days, referring to new mandate, they not be forced to still do housework before & after they go out

Despite being happy with the new mandate that states maids must be given a day off each month, maids also expect that they are not made to do housework before and after they go out on their off day.

By the end of the year, foreign domestic workers in Singapore will be given a mandatory rest day and a 24/7 helpline, among other measures to help their wellbeing, said Minister of State for Manpower Gan Siow Huang on Sunday (May 22).

Loh Kean Yew agrees with Joseph Schooling ‘that National Service and sports can co-exist’

Badminton champion Loh Kean Yew weighed in on Singapore’s top athletes and the National Service requirement, in response to swimmer Joseph Schooling’s call for a national dialogue on the issue.

In a May 21 Instagram post where he posted a photo of himself standing side by side with the swimmer, Loh, 24, wrote, “I agree with what Joseph said and I think that National Service and sports can co-exist. Ultimately, we are all defending the same flag and want to do Singapore proud. 🇸🇬

Netizen’s uncle still shoplifts despite getting caught thrice, asks, “is there a way to help him stop?”

A netizen took to social media to write about their uncle’s chronic shoplifting habit. Despite being caught thrice for shoplifting, in a span of two years, the netizen’s uncle seems unable to break the habit.

In an anonymous post to popular confessions page SGWhispers, the netizen wrote: “My retired uncle have (sic) been caught thrice for shoplifting in 2 years but since he is an elder, the police decided to just let him go with a warning. On his (sic) third time he was arrested, he called my dad to bail him out instead”.

There are such things as love scams, and they involve both men and women, and they are very active on the internet in particular. In 2019, a grandmother fell victim to a love scam.

A romance online, a flight from China to Malaysia, and then the shocking realisation: Maria Exposto’s backpack was full of drugs! The plot is typical, involving online scams and phoney romance. She didn’t realise the internet romance was a scam until she was arrested at Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
