A netizen took to social media to write about their uncle’s chronic shoplifting habit. Despite being caught thrice for shoplifting, in a span of two years, the netizen’s uncle seems unable to break the habit.

In an anonymous post to popular confessions page SGWhispers, the netizen wrote: “My retired uncle have (sic) been caught thrice for shoplifting in 2 years but since he is an elder, the police decided to just let him go with a warning. On his (sic) third time he was arrested, he called my dad to bail him out instead”.

Frustrated with his behaviour, the man’s family refused to bail him out of jail.

And they didn’t show up at all even after my dad called them. My dad made him promise not to shoplift again or he also won’t bail him out,” the netizen said.

However, a year later, when going grocery shopping with their uncle, the netizen saw his uncle had hidden a bar of soap in his pocket.

“I went over and gently remind him that there are cameras around and that someone was caught shoplifting a week ago (I made it up). I also make it clear that he can get anything and I’ll pay, since it a value shop”, the netizen wrote.

While paying, the uncle did not have the bar of soap in his basket, and the netizen had assumed that he put it back. “But I was surprised when I saw him sneaked the bar of soap into his bag after we walked out of the shop”, the netizen wrote.

“He admitted to ‘accidentally dropped’ (sic) it in his pocket which I told him that’s impossible. I reminded him that if he continues, the police will eventually charge him one day, it’ll be his 4th times (sic) already”, he added.

At a loss of what to do as well, the netizen asked others if there was a way to help his uncle stop shoplifting. They also asked what would happen to the uncle if no one were to bail him out, and wanted to know what the repeated punishment for shoplifting was.
