Singapore Democratic Party is back on the ground at Marsiling – Yew Tee GRC with Abdul Salim Harun who himself is no stranger to opposition politics, having contested in two previous General Elections.

Salim was first introduced to the political scene when he took on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s PAP in the 2006 election at the Ang Mo Kio GRC, representing The Workers’ Party. Salim then switched to the National Solidarity Party for the 2011 general elections and contested Marine Parade GRC against former PM Goh Chok Tong.

He is now with the SDP and at the start of the week together with Surayah Akbar, Bobby Chia and a few others from the party, they visited Block 159 in the Marsiling division of the constituency and interacted with residents who welcomed them into their home.

“Mr Ayim was waiting for his son, who is working as a grab driver, to return home from work. He happily shared with us how he used to stay at Kampong Wak Hassan before shifting into his current abode in the early 80s,” said Abdul Salim in his Facebook posting.

“Mr Ayim used to work with MOE, and is proud of the fact that even though at the age of 77 years old, he seldom falls sick and that he had taken his fourth booster jab.”

They also caught up with residents who shared with him their plans after serving the nations.

“We also met with Mr Elgin, who is currently serving his National Service with the Singapore Police Force and still has another year to go,” added Salim.

“When asked about his plans after National Service, he replied that he plans to continue with his studies. This is the same reply we got from Mr Ong, who is currently planning to join SIM after completing his National Service.”

Salim is a constant feature in SDP’s Marsiling – Yew Tee team as he had walked the ground with them post GE-2020, and had brought up several issues with the town council whenever the residents feedback such concerns to him.

“When Team SDP Marsiling – Yew Tee GRC visited Blk 161, Woodlands St 13, we received a couple of feedbacks from residents,” explained the SDP member.

“One of the issues regarding potholes has been solved and we are looking forward to work with the relevant authority on the high-rise littering problem at the block.” /TISG
