Nine-year-old boy who ran red light while riding skate scooter gets hit by taxi

SINGAPORE: A nine-year-old boy was taken to hospital after being hit by a taxi at the junction of Middle Road and Bencoolen Street on Monday afternoon (Oct 13).

The incident occurred at around 2.39 pm and was captured on a dashcam video later posted on the Facebook page ROADS.sg.

In the footage, several cars were seen beginning to move forward as the traffic light turned green. A blue taxi travelling straight along the junction suddenly encountered the boy, who rode his skate scooter across the road despite the red light.

The boy appeared to be moving quickly when the collision occurred. The impact was strong enough to throw him into the air, and one of his shoes was flung off, landing in the middle of the road.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call for assistance at around 2.45 pm. One person was taken to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Police confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.

A ComfortDelGro spokesperson said the company is in touch with the relevant parties to provide assistance. The spokesperson added that the taxi operator has lodged a police report and is cooperating fully with the authorities in their investigation.
