“Two Ministers in this pic — me and guess who?” — Ng Eng Hen posts throwback school photo; Singaporeans guess who is who

Singapore Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen recently shared a throwback photo featuring him and his schoolmates on social media. Together with the post was a little guessing game where he asked Singaporeans to guess which other government leader is seen in the old photo.

Mr Ng on Monday (Sept 26) took to Facebook to share a class photo taken sometime in the 70s. The faded picture featured 35 young pupils outside a building called Lee Kong Chian Building. “An old schoolmate sent this to me,” Mr Ng’s caption read, “First time seeing this pic.”

He then gave Singaporeans a bit of a challenge, saying, there are two Ministers in the photo. “Two Ministers in this pic,” he wrote, “Me…and guess who?

Many Singaporeans joined in on the guessing game. Most started with pointing out which person in the photo is Mr Ng himself. “Dr Ng, you are on (the) first row, second from the left,” said one.

As for the other Minister in the throwback photo, while some guessed it was Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, others guessed it was Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.

There were even a handful of netizens who wondered about the ratio of boys to girls in one class. In this, many wondered why there was only one girl. Still, another commented, “Your teacher must have been really great to bring up two outstanding ministers.”
