MALAYSIA: The upcoming 78th Cannes Film Festival’s coveted Red Carpet Premiere on May 20 will be attended by top Malaysian model and fashion entrepreneur Sharwita (also known as Sharminidevi Parameispran), according to Malay Mail.

She wants to take this opportunity to truly emphasise Malaysia’s great fashion labels and showcase to the globe that the country is a perfect destination for Southeast Asian fashion tourism. She will be attending the prestigious international film festival for the second time.
Malaysia’s got it all
In an interview at Wisma Bernama, Sharwita said that Malaysia’s got it all – an amazing mix of cultures, talented designers, and the potential to be a real hotspot for fashion tourism, not just in Southeast Asia but even further! She’s really hoping her being at Cannes will help spread that message.
For her big walk on the Cannes red carpet, Sharwita will be wearing these one-of-a-kind, specially created pieces from Thamarai Jewels. She’s actually the brand’s official ambassador, and they’re the official jewellery partner for her appearance there.
Last year, the model turned heads at the Cannes Film Festival Red Carpet with a kebaya-inspired gown featuring 10,000 handcrafted pearls.
Stunning, high-fashion design
With two decades in the fashion world under her belt, the statuesque 5’9″ Sharwita will be wearing a stunning, high-fashion design from The Atelier for her Cannes appearance. This is a really respected Malaysian brand known for its amazing couture, and their team of international designers is actually led by the legendary shoe designer, Datuk Jimmy Choo.
Sharwita’s schedule includes attending film premieres and networking across over 60 international pavilions. In this way, she’ll be representing Malaysia not only through its fashion but also as a cultural ambassador.
Linking Malaysia’s creative talents
Sharwita sees Cannes as more than just a fancy event. In her words, it’s about making connections, learning new things, and creating opportunities to work together. She really views herself as someone who can help link Malaysia’s creative talents – from fashion to film – with the rest of the world.
The model is currently in talks with Finas (the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia) to put Malaysia on the map as a fashion tourism spot and support the big “Visit Malaysia Year 2026” campaign. Sharwita and Finas are looking to collaborate after Sharwita’s appearance at Cannes.
