Malaysian man lured woman to HDB block with job offer, tried to drag her into lift
SINGAPORE: A 24-year-old Malaysian man lured a woman into his apartment building, stating that he was offering her a job. However, when the woman refused to be invited upstairs, the man forcibly dragged her into the elevator. Luckily, the woman managed to escape before the elevator doors closed.
Case details revealed that on the evening of Sept 21 this year, the suspect met up with the female victim near Ubi MRT station. The two then had a conversation and eventually ended up at the HDB block where the suspect lived, as reported by Shin Min Daily News.
At 11:25 p.m. that same night, the suspect invited the victim to his unit, stating that they would continue discussing the potential job opportunities that he might offer. However, the woman declined the invitation and attempted to leave. Due to this, the suspect grabbed the arm of the victim to prevent her from leaving. The woman then screamed to seek help.
At that time, the elevator doors nearly opened and the suspect forcibly dragged the woman into the elevator. The victim managed to break free at the last second and ran away from the scene. After the incident, the victim reported what happened to the police and admitted that the suspect’s behaviour frightened her.
With this, the suspect was arrested the next day and pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to unlawfully imprison another person on October 29. Also, he was sentenced to two weeks’ imprisonment.
