A foreign domestic worker who did not get a day off for the first six months of her employment asked others for advice on what to do.

In her anonymous post, the helper seemed resigned to her lack of rest day but asked other helpers and employers what she should do for a haircut. In her post to Facebook group FDW in Singapore (working conditions forum), the helper wrote anonymously: “Hi there, I’m keen to find out how do most of you settle your haircut if you still do not have day off during the first 6 months”.

She asked if she should wait until her day off to visit a hair salon, or if she should cut her hair by herself.

“How do the employers in this group settle your fdw’s haircut?” the helper asked.

Many of those who commented said that they would cut their hair themselves at home. They also called for the Manpower Ministry to step in and disallow the 6-month period where helpers had no day off.

Here’s what they said:
