Mahathir reminds Johor voters that Najib has been labelled ‘a plundering idiot’

Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad reminded Johor voters that Najib Razak was a no-go in their choice of parties and leaders in the Johor polls, recalling that the former PM was once called a “plundering idiot” and the Court of Appeal described Najib as a “national embarrassment, one who humiliated the country”.

Dr Mahathir said this in his second letter to Johoreans who are due to vote on Saturday, March 12, to elect a new state legislature.

The purpose of this election is to choose 56 members of the 15th Johor State Legislative Assembly. The previous assembly was dissolved on Jan 22.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who has twice been prime minister of his country, has insisted that he will continue to speak out against Najib and anybody else he believes is attempting to destabilise the country and deceive the people.

Najib, he says, is hoping Malaysians will believe he is not guilty and that he is being persecuted by political opponents. Before the 1MDB scandal, Dr Mahathir stated that he supported Najib.

“There are also people who are influenced and believe to an extend… they have come forward to defend him, calling him their ‘Boss’ and kiss his hand,” said Dr Mahathir referring to the “Bossku” term coined by Najib’s supporters.

Dr Mahathir who leads the Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) has warned that if Najib returns to power, kleptocrats from the “court cluster” will rule and pillage the country. The court cluster is made of political figures facing prosecution. Most of them, if not all, are from Umno, the ruling party of Malaysia.

Dr Mahathir explains that he backed Najib to become prime minister during the time of Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, because he revered Najib’s father, Tun Abdul Razak, the country’s second prime minister.

Added Dr Mahathir:

“Sadly, Najib is nothing like his father. Tun Razak is a nationalist and dignified champion of the nation. In contrast, Najib robbed national assets with the help of Jho Low (fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho)

“Foreign newspapers have labelled him as a ‘plundering idiot’ that I believe means ‘penyamun tongong’ in the Johor language.

“Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal described him as a ‘national embarrassment, one who humiliated the country,” he says.
