UPDATE: Sept 22, 2022
The tour has been fully booked with no remaining spaces available.
Ahead of their hiking trip to South Korea, Sengkang GRC member of parliament Jamus Lim met up with a group of residents to walk along the route of the Southern Ridges.
“It was the first time that I experienced the trail. But having spent my childhood years in the Telok Blangah area, and now that I work around the Kent Ridge area, the starting and ending points of the hike were metaphorical bookends for my own Singaporean journey,” posted Jamus on his Facebook page.
The Workers’ Party is organising an exclusive hiking trip to Jeju Island from 19 Oct to 23 Oct with Jamus. The highlights of the trip include visits to Geumak Oreum, Saryeoni Forest Trail, Mangjanggul Cave, and Camellia Hill.
Keen on getting the momentum going before departing for Korea, Jamus said that there will be another session soon, this time at a different location.
“We’ll have another preparatory hike in the weeks to come, this time to start at McRitchie, and end at Bukit Timah which I’m looking forward to as well, since it’s been ages since I’ve last had the opportunity to hike the central catchment area,” explained Jamus.
“We are mulling the possibility of rolling out Singapore-based hikes for residents of Sengkang GRC in the future, so do let us know if there is interest!”
While there is interest in this trip, a netizen asked about a possibility of a cheaper alternative for future overseas hiking trips with the WP.
“Hi Jamus,For the next outing, can consider somewhere less pocket-draining, and nearer, eg Broga Hill in M’sia? And possibly arrange it when the ETS electric train is fully connected to JB City Sq? I’m sure many would be keen to join if so,” commented Jennifer Su-mien Lim
I am only suggesting the next destination, as it is nearby and cost-wise, lower, so even more can join in. With a wider variety of outings and events, WP representatives can mingle with a broader spectrum of residents If you have other suggestions, pls feel free to bring them up.”
