I choose you, Weedle! Huge worm with horn spotted in Johor Bahru looks like real-life Pokémon

Pokémon fans know that the first-generation characters of the best-selling RPG series were highly analogous to real-life creatures.

There’s Rattata, taken from a rat, Pidgey from a pigeon, Ekans (a snake spelt backwards)…and now, Weedle, which was spotted in Johor Bahru recently.

The gigantic, alien-like worm went viral on social media after Facebook user Erain Tan posted footage of the sighting on Thursday (Nov 24).

She noted spotting the creature outside her store in Kampung Gajah, Johor.

The worm featured snake-like patterns across its back and was quite thick. Ms Tan noted that the slightest sound would cause the worm to twitch.

She added that the creature probably slithered away as it disappeared when she returned after setting up her store.

The worm had several similarities to the bug-poison type Pokémon, such as its segmented body and horn-like appendage, although the real thing had one at the end of its body.

Its appearance sparked a debate among netizens, with some joking this was an actual Weedle that crawled out of a Nintendo Switch.

Others got scientific and said this was the larva of an agrius convolvulus, also known as convolvulus hawk-moth.

Regardless of the name or origin, the worm succeeded in scaring countless netizens./TISG
