A member of the public eating at the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital food court critiqued her meal, costing S$7.50 for items that weren’t “worth it” for the price.
A video of the meal from Kopitiam Food Court at the hospital was shared on Facebook page Complaint Singapore on Aug 16.
The customer explained that her meal, consisting of a thin slice of luncheon meat, three pieces of chicken nuggets, a fillet, and noodles, cost her S$7.50.
She showed the receipt, which listed the items as “add-ons.”
The woman couldn’t believe that the “super thin” slice of luncheon meat was S$2.
This was not the first time a customer was shocked at the price of hospital food.
A staff from Singapore General Hospital posted on social media last month that her mixed rice order from Outram Community Hospital food court cost her S$6.70.
After a 20 per cent staff discount, the customer ended up paying S$5.40 for the meal, which included a pork chop “the size of a spoon.”
Netizens wondered why hospital food was so expensive. “Hospital food court are very ridiculous! Want to earn (from) sick people and family money. Really worst of the worst!” exclaimed Facebook user Simon Goh.
“Should be like this family member come and visit or stay overnight must eat there. Gov charge rental high also want to earn this kind of money,” noted another netizen, comparing Singapore to other countries.
“Unlike other countries, hospital food charge cheaper so that family members can look after the sick ppl and can afford to buy food in the hospital.”
“Now is time for our government to set up a FOD (foods overcharge department) to catch all these suckers,” suggested Facebook user Lim Thomas.
“If not, there were be more and more (of these) suckers coming out. This is just like LTA; if taxi drivers overcharge, they will be fined and suspended. Why hawkers and food courts they dun care? Lastly, dun tell us rental expensive or whatever cos u yourself ask for it.” /TISG
