Actor Henry Golding, star of ‘Crazy Rich Asians’, could possibly play Snake Eyes in a G.I. Joe spin-off about the ninja commando. Golding is currently in talks about the casting with Paramount, Skydance and AllSparks, according to Variety’s sources.
Director Robert Schwentke who helmed “The Captain” has been chosen to direct the movie “Snake Eyes”, and Brian Goldner is producing. The script for the third G.I. Joe movie was written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, who penned the scripts for “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Huntsman: Winter’s War”.
“Snake Eyes” will be the third G.I. Joe movie after “G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra” (2009) and “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” (2013), with the latter—starring Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis—bringing in $350 million worldwide.
Actor Ray Park played Snake Eyes both times, but Golding is now being eyed for the role.
The movies are based on the Hasbro toys from of the same name, first launched in the 1960’s and then later re-launched in the early 1980’s.
Dressed in all black, Snake Eyes is a silent ninja commando who never reveals his face and doesn’t speak. He is the most popular member in the military anti-terrorist group and has a pet wolf, Timber, with whom he carries out some solo missions.
He has a special relationship with the team’s one-time only female member Scarlett, and his archenemy is Storm Shadow, another ninja who just happens to also be his blood brother.
Sources say the studio and Hasbro are currently looking at putting a new and different spin on the well-loved series, even outsourcing ideas to a writers room. If the origin story of Snake Eyes will be told, we could get to see the face of the elusive ninja.
Paramount is also working on a reboot of “Transformers”, this time with a spin-off of the fan favourite character Bumblebee.
While Golding is still in talks with the studios on the possible Snake Eyes role, fans have already gotten excited about the casting, even going as far as creating some kick-ass fan art of what Golding might look as the ninja.
BossLogic just shared this on Twitter:

After stealing hearts in 2018 as the dashing leading man in the hit romantic comedy hit “Crazy Rich Asians,” Golding has continued to star in a number of leading roles—in Guy Ritchie’s “The Gentleman” opposite Matthew McConaughey and in Universal’s romantic comedy “Last Christmas” opposite Emilia Clarke of Game of Thrones.
Golding recently appeared in the Lionsgate thriller “A Simple Favor”. He is repped by Paradigm, Megan Silverman Management and Stone Genow.
The actor also this year launched his own production company, Long House Productions.
Fans are getting excited over Golding in Snake Eyes’ suit, but I guess we have to wait and see what happens! Stay tuned. /TISG
