Kuala Lumpur — Veteran Malaysian actor Faizal Hussein has been in the film industry for many years, and he mentioned that it is getting harder and harder to compete with younger actors in the industry.

The 54-year-old had a virtual media conference with mStarThe Star’s Malay-language portal where he said that it remains a challenge to try to keep up in the industry.

However, he emphasised that it was the only way for experienced actors like himself to “maintain momentum in the field of acting”.

The actor said that he does not stick to a specific formula when it comes to maintaining relevance. Faizal does pay attention to his appearance and stick to his personal values.

“Even at this age, I am still concern about my appearance and have to ensure the quality of acting in each project that I undertake. To be honest, it is not easy to compete with so many actors in this industry. I have to learn to evolve with the time,” he told mStar.

The actor is currently starring in the new 12-episode drama I-Tanggang which premiered on Astro Ria on Sept 13. The series, directed by Wan Hasliza Wan Zainuddin, follows Khalil Rayyan, a cancer patient who explores his family issues that will tug at the heartstrings of viewers. The show will also touch on the subject of mental health.

I-Tanggang also stars Sherie Merlis, Nadhir Nasar, Sofea Jane and Rashidi Ishak, The Star reported.

Faizal also told mStar that he is proud to work alongside a stellar cast. He added that this drama is different from the shows that are available on TV currently. “Apart from shining a light on the current reality, this series also discusses the ongoing mental health issues faced by many,” he said.

Born May 31, 1967, Mohd Faizal Hussein is a Malaysian actor. He made his acting debut in 1972 and is known for his role as Roy in the 1986 teen film Gila-Gila Remaja, directed by his father Hussein Abu Hassan.
