For those who love, love stories, here’s another good one for you. Ever since Taiwanese actress and singer Barbie Hsu married her old flame, South Korean musician DJ Koo Jun-Yup in a surprise ceremony a few months ago, fans have been hankering for a look at the couple.

DJ Koo, 52, has now dropped a gift to the legion of fans. Not only did he share photos from their wedding and their past, but he also told their love story in an interview on You Quiz On The Block, a South Korean variety show.

Hsu, 45, married DJ Koo Jun-yup earlier this year. It came as a surprise to many, including Hsu’s mum, Huang Chun-Mei, who only learned of the marriage the night before it actually happened.

This caused a rift between mother and daughter, which, thankfully, seems to have healed.

The Meteor Garden actress and KLON musician had been in a relationship in 1999, but were said to have broken up after a year.

This week, Koo told hosts  Yoo Jae-suk and Jo Se-ho that when he met Hsu two decades ago, he found her to be a nice girl and wanted to marry someone like her.

They ended up dating for a year but kept the relationship under wraps.

Hsu went on to marry Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei, 40, in 2010, and the couple has two children, a daughter and a son.

But in November 2021, they got divorced.

Koo, on the other hand, has stayed single all these years.

They only saw each other again after he reached out to his old flame after she split from her husband.

Upon learning that the actress was single again, he reached out to her.

When the reconnection was successful, he said it was destiny, as the flame rekindled, and Koo and Hsu fell in love. Again.

But these were pandemic times, and she was in Taiwan while he was in South Korea.

This meant that the rekindling played out over video calls, including his proposal, which was done when he got down on one knee.

After registering their marriage in South Korea, he flew to Taiwan last March, spending time in quarantine until they could see each other IRL.

The rest, as they say, is history.

He has also put to rest rumours of their mothers being unhappy with the couple.

“My mother met Barbie when we were dating 20 years ago. She said Barbie loved me very much at that time and she was glad to see us together,” he said in the interview.

And Hsu’s mother, Huang Chun-Mei, is also happy.

“As a mother, it’s impossible for her not to be happy when she sees how much I love her daughter,” Koo added. /TISG
