Singapore — Situational awareness is key to avoiding accidents on the road – a motorcyclist was thrown off his bike as he tried to squeeze through other road users while a vehicle was changing lanes.

Facebook page ROADS.sg shared a video uploaded by Singapore Roads Accident.com on Monday (Sept 13), highlighting an accident along the Central Expressway (CTE).

The video began with the motorcycle approaching a black Honda CRV that was changing lanes without signalling.

Neither the CRV driver nor the motorcyclist stopped to avoid a collision.

As a result, the motorcyclist was thrown off his bike and landed on the road, rolling a few times due to the impact.

His motorcycle also hit an incoming vehicle recording the scene on the dashboard camera. A passenger was heard exclaiming at the accident.

“Wishing rider a speedy and full recovery,” added ROADS.sg.

With over 150 comments, members from the online community reiterated the importance of defensive driving.

Others noted that the motorcyclist could have slowed down or taken another lane instead of squeezing through.

“Both wrong, motorcycle overconfident and think he can’t cut through and the car actually must wait before changing lane,” said Facebook user Nazs Nani.

“I think if the video is observed more carefully, one will notice that the black car was filtering into the second lane without signalling nor concern for another motorcyclist,” commented Facebook user Allen Wan.

“However, the motorcyclist should have been more alert and practice defensive riding for his own safety.”/TISG
