BTS walks away with 3 awards at 2022 Billboard Music Awards

The group walked away with top duo or group, top song sales artist and top-selling song. The announcement was made on social media ahead of the awards show that was held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

BTS has been receiving an average of at least one award at the annual music event every year. Last year, the septet was nominated for four awards; top duo or group, top song sales artist, top social artist and top-selling song. They won all four categories.

With its latest coup of 12 trophies, BTS has trumped Destiny Child’s record of 11 wins, which had remained unbroken for 17 years.

The act was nominated for seven awards in six categories — top duo or group, top song sales artist, top Billboard global artist (excluding the US), top-selling song, top Billboard global song (excluding the US) and top rock song. It was the most nominations the group had ever received at the BBMAs.

BTS won in the top duo or group category, beating favourites like British rock band Glass Animals and Silk Sonic. They had also previously won in this category in 2019 and 2021.

In the top song sales artist category, the group outdid big names like Ed Sheeran, Adele and Dua Lipa. BTS also won the award for top-selling song for a second time for their hit song Butter.

The group were not present at the awards ceremony nor did they give any acceptance speech other than a simple tweet stating, “Thank you BBMAs and BTS Army!”
