Only charred remains left of house after Jalan Dua unit catches fire

A ninth storey unit at Block 97 of Jalan Dua caught fire yesterday morning.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were alerted at about 9.45am, and were seen to be fighting the fire at 10.15am.

A spokesman from the SCDF said, “SCDF conducted forcible entry and extinguished the fire which involved contents of a bedroom with one water jet”.

He also added that, “An elderly woman was assessed by the paramedic for shortness of breath while evacuating and did not want to be conveyed to the hospital.”

Later that day, Member of Parliament for Mounbatten Lim Biow Chuan shared the incident on his Facebook page.

Mr Lim also said that there were no casualties but that one flat was badly damaged and the soot dirtied three others.

The pictures he shared also showed most of the flat completely charred, with the ceiling of the common corridor blackened due to soot.

Mr Lim also said, “For the flat which was damaged, HDB will arrange a temporary flat for them while repairs are carried out. The community leaders are currently sourcing for mattresses, bed sheets and other household items to help the affected family”.
