Facebook user Megan Boey has alleged that her “psycho neighbour” tailed and assaulted her companion and herself in what she claims is an unprovoked attack. Taking to social media yesterday, Boey shared videos partially capturing the incident and wrote:
“So today around 4pm, me and Benjamin Matchap were heading out for late lunch but were followed all the way to the road by our psycho neighbour. he got up real close to us and started antagonising us until we had to retaliate in self-defense.
“Ben ended up fighting with him and trying to pin him down while yelling for someone to call the police. I tried to record what was happening but me holding up my phone caused the neighbour to punch me twice – once in the wrist so i dropped my phone onto the road and the second was a direct hit to my face which made me stumble (there were cars going past) so i had to regain my balance. my lip is now swollen.
“Ben and the neighbour have both been detained. I was told they may both be charged for “disturbing the public peace” but as far as I’m concerned, me and Ben were just acting in self-defense against someone who tailed us and started antagonising us in broad daylight. I really hope Ben doesn’t get charged, but for now I have to wait until I can post bail. If possible me and Ben will be pressing charges against him because the situation has gotten to the point where everyone in the household is afraid to even leave the house.
“If you live in the Hougang Ave 8 area please keep an eye out for our fucked up neighbour. He’s very quick to anger and escalates situations very quickly. He’s been harassing us for about one and a half years now, by doing things like making snide remarks at Ben’s mother when she comes back home from work, glaring at us when we leave the house, peeping into our house through the balcony, setting his fans to blow smoke into our living room and coming out into the corridor at 1am to shout at us. He has a wife and kids and has had to be physically restrained by his wife when arguing with us. He also claims we constantly slam the door and it scares his daughter, but even when his daughters aren’t at home or when we close the door quietly, he still uses the same claim.
“Be careful if you come across him, he’s not a stable person, he definitely has anger management issues and will escalate things physically if he’s paranoid enough to think you’re picking a fight with him.”
this is what we get for trying to solve this dispute amicably. we got followed all the way across the road and when i pulled out my phone to record i got punched in the face.

Boey also shared photos of her friend, Benjamin Matchap, being detained by police officers. She shared on her Facebook page:
“they just arrested both ben and the neighbour. im so disgusted that the neighbour escalated the situation to the point where he felt the need to tail us, start a fight with us near the roadside and physically attack me and ben. we’re both covered in scrapes and bruises, i got punched in the face and my phone fell onto the road multiple times because the neighbour was trying to get me the stop recording”

The videos Boey shared have been trending on social media. Netizens have pointed out that Boey’s account is only one side of the story.

One of the men shown in the video, Benjamin Matchap, is well-known in some circles for his activism and art. Last October, Matchap made headlines when he filmed a National Environment Agency (NEA) officer who took issue with him smoking under a sheltered area.
