SINGAPORE: A 27-year-old Singaporean man with an alleged net worth of $260k took to an online forum on Tuesday (Feb 11) to share that he is seriously considering quitting his job to travel. The young man, who is single and living with his parents, shared, “I made my money from a combination of US stock trading and working in my office job (pays around 60,000 per annum).”

“I’m a 27-year-old Singaporean male, single, living with parents, no car, no house, with $260k net worth, he shared. Recently I feel very bored about my job and I have been thinking of quitting my job and travelling to Vietnam or Thailand for maybe six months and try to explore the country, try different food, workout, and live a healthy, stress-free lifestyle, party and meet girls.”

I have never solo travelled before and always have travelled with my parents in the past. I really like Vietnamese women (their looks and and their accent) and want to hopefully find a girlfriend in Vietnam. Anyone else has similar experiences before and would like to share?”

Commenters responded in different ways. While many encouraged him to go for it and travel while he was still young, others were more realistic.

“53M here, some of the best memories that get me through the current bad times were made in my 20s whilst back-packing around the world, said one. “You’ll never get this chance again, all you’ll have in later life are regrets and what ifs? If it all goes to shit, I’m sure you’ll be able to come back to Singapore and pick up where you left off.

You won’t ever find the time to travel freely when you’re older, especially after marriage you can forget about it as there are too many commitments, said another. “So you need to ask yourselfWhat’s the point of working for money if you don’t have the time to spend it?’” said another. “When you are young, you have plenty of time to make back the most sums of money, but it’s time and age which you cannot recover once you lose them.”

However, some were a bit more practical. “Request for a sabbatical, said one. “That way, you have a job to return to.”

Still, another wrote, “With $260k and wanting a Vietnamese girlfriend, you won’t last long before having to return and work.”
