While the World Cup monopolised the attention of football fans for the whole of last week, one story of a faulty goalpost here in Singapore was glossed over.

A StarHub League Cup match between Tampines Rovers and Warriors FC at Clementi Stadium had to be rescheduled on July 10 at the last moment, because officials inspecting the field found out that the goalpost was cracked.

A press release by the Football Association of Singapore on the same day said: “For the safety of the players, they (the officials) subsequently decided that the match should not proceed.”

The match between Tampines Rovers FC VS Warriors FC was played on Saturday, July 12. Warriors FC won the match with the 3 – 2 score at full time.

S. League had apologized for the inconvenience caused to its fans and assured them that those who have bought tickets to the match will only need to produce their ticket stubs at rescheduled game to gain free entry.

No further information was released regarding what caused the crack and the time it was discovered. Further questions, such as what was being done to remedy the crack, were directed to the FAS but they declined to comment. The media was advised to refer to the press release for all enquiries.
