Shanti Pereira qualifies for Paris Olympics 2024 200m event

SINGAPORE: Shanti Pereira gets in the 2024 Paris Olympics 200m event, making her the first Singaporean to make the feat.

On August 23, 2023, she matched the required time of 22.57 seconds during Heat Three at the World Athletics Championships held at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest.

Her achievement granted her a spot in the 200m semi-finals scheduled for August 24 at the competition in Hungary. However, she was unable to secure a position in the finals.

In the third semi-final at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, she recorded a time of 22.79 seconds, placing her sixth.

Shericka Jackson of Jamaica, the reigning 200m world champion, led with the fastest time of 22.00 seconds, followed by American Sha’Carri Richardson with 22.20 seconds.

The final included the top two runners from the three semi-finals, along with the next two swiftest competitors. Out of the 24 participants, Pereira ranked 17th overall.

Notably, Richardson claimed victory in the 100m event earlier that week.
