A by-election is looming in the single member constituency of Bukit Batok soon, after the People’s Action Party (PAP) MP David Ong resigned due to indiscretion. Although the Prime Minister has not announced the date for the by-election, it likely looks like there will be a straight contest between the PAP and the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP).
SDP has signaled that it would field Dr Chee Soon Juan, its secretary-general, while PAP will be fielding Mr Muralidharan Pillai. Mr Pillai was fielded as the PAP’s candidate for Aljunied GRC in the last General Election.
Mr Pillai has been making his rounds in Bukit Batok. But he has had lots of help from the Party’s heavyweights in trying to win the hearts and the votes of the residents of Bukit Batok.
Seen following him in his rounds are the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, as well as Mr Desmond Lee. Mr Lee is the Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of National Development.

We are so glad last night to meet up with Mrs Elizabeth Ong, the wife of the late Dr Ong Chit Chung, for dinner and she spoke about her encounters with Mr Murali. The late Dr Ong was a Member of Parliament for Jurong GRC (Bukit Batok) from 2001 to 2008.Fb.com/PAPBukitBatok

The PAP has pulled all stops to ensure that Bukit Batok remains in its grips. Will the voters trust the Party another time?
