Mother stabs 15yo daughter with knife, hits her with metal ladle, floorball sticks & electric fan to stop her from going out

A 40-year-old woman resorted to violence to prevent her teenage daughter from stepping out of the house frequently. She used a knife to stab her daughter’s thigh and hit her with a metal ladle, floorball sticks and an electric fan.

The mother went to her oldest daughter, 21, and asked if her sister should be killed. Afraid to get into trouble, the eldest didn’t respond. She also hesitated to intervene in what was about to happen. The mother grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her daughter’s thigh.

Following the attack, the 15-year-old was warded at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) from June 20 to July 1, 2022. The mother, who cannot be named due to a gag order protecting the victim’s identity, started scolding her daughter on June 20 as they were getting ready for bed.

“At about 1:37 am, the accused asked if she should kill the victim before stabbing the victim in the right thigh, causing the victim to bleed. The victim also sustained a cut on her right arm as she was trying to stop the accused,” said Deputy Public Prosecutor Tan Yanying in a Straits Times report.

“The victim immediately tried to stop the bleeding by tying a shirt around her thigh. Upon seeing what had happened, the accused told the victim to clean up the blood on the floor before (the accused) headed back to the kitchen.”

The victim went to her sister’s room for safety, but the mother discovered that the blood wasn’t cleaned up. She shouted at her daughter, who then went out to clean up the room. Still enraged, the mother used a metal ladle and repeatedly hit her daughter. When the weapon bent out of shape, she fixed the spoon and continued hitting the teen.

The mother simply mocked her daughter’s cries and suffering.

Someone reported a commotion to the authorities, and police arrived at the flat at around 1:50 am. However, the mother told the teen to hide in a bathroom and told the police that nothing was happening. She said she and her eldest daughter were merely talking loudly.

The officers questioned the older daughter, who also said that everything was fine. Once the police left, the mother continued hitting the teen, this time with an electric fan until it broke, and she switched to two floorball sticks. She eventually finished the attack and told her eldest daughter to care for her sister’s wounds.

At around 3:20 am, the woman called the police and admitted to her actions. She pleaded guilty on Monday (Nov 28) to voluntarily causing hurt to her daughter with a weapon which carries a sentence of up to seven years imprisonment, a fine, caning, or a combination of the punishments. However, the mother cannot be caned because she is a woman.

She will be sentenced on Jan 4, 2023. The victim is now under the care of her maternal aunt. /TISG
