‘There is a glorious future for the opposition,’ Lim Tean joins PSP’s National Day Dinner

Lawyer and opposition leader Lim Tean wrote in a Sunday (Aug 14) Facebook post that he had been “delighted” to be a guest at the National Day dinner celebrated by Progress Singapore Party.

Mr Lim, who heads the People’s Voice party, posted several photos from the event, which included other opposition figures.

He wrote, “There Is A Glorious Future For The Opposition.

I was delighted to be a guest at PSP’s National Day dinner last night. It was great to catch up with my Opposition friends,and I thank PSP for organising such a rousing National Day celebration.”

The lawyer added that he is “forward to working closely with all our Opposition friends in the coming years” and predicted that the coming decade will be one “of great change and it is the Opposition now which has won the battle of ideas. Our responsibility is to be bold, to step up, and to translate those ideas into a better life for Singaporeans and a progressive Nation.”

In another post, he put up a photo of himself with PSP chief Francis Yuen, Non-Constituency Members of Parliament Hazel Poa and Leong Mun Wai, and Taufik Saupan singing “Count On Me Singapore” in the background.

“My fellow Singaporeans, You can always Count On The Opposition to look after the interests of Singapore and Singaporeans!,” Mr Lim added.

In yet another post, Mr Lim put up a photo of himself with Mr Singam, one of PSP’s founding members and whom he described to be “A Veteran Grassroots Leader Still Going Strong!”

“Good to see Mr Singam still going strong! His commitment to politics is as fresh as the day he started on his political journey.It shows you there is no such thing as an age limit in politics,” Mr Lim added.

Dr Tan Cheng Bock, who had served as a Member of Parliament under the ruling People’s Action Party at Ayer Rajah for 26 years, founded the PSP with eleven others in 2019.

He served as PSP’s first Secretary-General, a position he held until last year. In the General Election of 2020, Dr Tan, now 82, contested at West Coast GRC and got 48.31 per cent of the vote, but lost to the PAP slate, which includes ministers S Iswaran and Desmond Lee.

Netizens commenting on Mr Lim’s posts said they were glad to see members of the opposition coming together.
