A man who claims to be “so in love” with his girlfriend asked for advice on how to become ready to get married.
“I’m so in love with her but I just couldn’t make myself get down on one knee and ask for her hand in marriage,” he wrote on the NUS Whispers Facebook page.
His girlfriend of 3 years is eager to get married and has been “bugging” him to get married, which is causing him stress.
However, he has not been honest about his financial position, letting her think he’s “a pauper” and claiming to not be able to afford a flat when in reality he has “6-figure savings accumulated from my deceased father’s will on top of my own assets.”
Their lifestyle is a modest and even frugal one, as he was taught by his mother to never flaunt his wealth, and he knows money is not that important to his girlfriend, even if she comes from a well-to-do family.
“The problem I have with my gf may be insignificant to some couples. I don’t really have any major red flags or issues about her. Even if she’s not my gf, I would think of her as a great person to have around. I know other men will find her very eligible given her looks, personality and family background. My mother loves her and already considers her a daughter in law. But I have a but. I’m not ready. We are in our late 20s.”
“How do you become ready?” he asked.
Netizens advised him to break up with her, as he does not seem to value her in the way she deserves.
“Please do a good deed and break up with her. She deserves better,” wrote one commenter.
“Let her go. You can’t even be truthful to her when it comes to money,” wrote another.
Some doubted whether he loves her at all.
