Netizens call NOC saga ‘The gift that keeps giving. Never ending saga’ after latest round of legal issues reported

The Night Owl Cinematics (NOC) rumpus started in October of last year when allegations of abusive behaviour by co-founder Sylvia Chan started circulating. And the NOC saga shows no sign of abating, with police reports, tell-alls, apologies, and more allegations going public.

With the latest round of legal issues reported, some netizens are calling the saga a “gift that keeps giving.”

On Monday (Aug 1), mothership reported on three lawsuits NOC is involved in. One was filed by NOC against Reno King and Tan Weiwen.

Ryan Tan, NOC’s other founder, is Ms Chan’s ex-husband. They divorced in 2020. His name was published as Ryan Tan Weiwen in a 2014 AsiaOne piece, mothership noted, adding that the suit has been classified under “employment.”

Reno King is Mr Tan’s production company.

On July 13, a pre-trial conference for the suit took place at the Supreme Court.

NOC’s two other lawsuits are against former talents Samantha Tan and Grace Lim. These also concern employment issues and were heard on July 22 and July 25.

Some of the allegations of Ms Chan treating employees badly involved Ms Tan.

Screenshots of a private conversation between Ms Chan and another employee showed the former calling the former NOC talent “f**king dumb”, “f**king annoying” and a “f**kface”, as well as requesting an “exit strategy” for her.

The NOC co-founder acknowledged, however, in an apology note that she had used “strong language” but clarified it was not her intent to harm, abuse or discriminate against Ms Tan.

A number of netizens weighed in on what appears to be the next instalment of the NOC saga.

Some commenters seem to believe that the only ones who will benefit in the end are the lawyers hired in the cases.
