‘Grab, give me back my money’ — Passengers complain they’re made to pay for rides never taken, yet to get refund

Grab was recently accused of cheating after the company deducted an amount tagged as “on hold” even though the passenger never got into the vehicle.

“Grab, why are you cheating my money?” asked Facebook page Complaint Singapore member Letchumi Babu on Monday (June 20). She explained that the company had wrongly deducted payment for two rides that she never took. The amount was supposed to be on hold through the GrabPay Card payment method, but the transactions were still pushed through.

“I spoke to your agents three times, the third time, they told me to liase with Ryde to rectify the issue. And all three times, they ended my chat abruptly!” said Ms Babu, urging the company to give back her money amounting to almost S$40.

It appears that others have experienced the same while patronising Grab.

“I am having the same issue, the total amount more than S$100, never refund(ed) to me yet since after a week’s time,” commented Facebook user Andy Low.

One Juliana Dass had used GrabPay Card to pay when booking a ride with Gojek or Ryde and also had her on-hold amount deducted.

“Both Ryde and Gojek claimed money was refunded and take up this issue with Grab. Total S$50+. Complained so many times to Grab but no update,” said Ms Dass, who advised sticking to cash payments instead.

Others confirmed booking rides through cash instead of credit card because of the same issue. “That’s why I don’t charge money to Grab anymore,” added Facebook user Dav Lim.

In an update on Tuesday afternoon, Ms Dass said she just got a call from Grab customer support regarding the matter. Here’s her comment:
